The Determination of Iodine in Biologic Material.

چکیده
One of the greatest hindrances to the biochemical study of thyroid function has been the lack of a relatively simple, rapid, and accurate method for the determination of minute amounts of iodine in biological material. In general, the methods proposed have been of two types-those employing dry ashing and those employing wet digestion. The principal objections to the former group lie in the complexity of the procedure, the great length of time required for each determination, the many possibilities for iodine loss during the process, and the danger of incomplete combustion and loss of volatile substances unless an elaborate closed system is used. Pfeiffer (1928) was one of the first to introduce wet digestion for iodine determination. He suggested a procedure based upon the use of concentrated sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide to destroy the organic material and simultaneously liberate the iodine which was conducted into an alkaline absorber. The failure of this method to oxidize fats satisfactorily has greatly limited its usefulness. Leipert (1933, 1934) proposed a method for iodine determination which seemed to offer very distinct advantages over any of the earlier procedures. This investigator oxidized the organic matter with chromic acid in the presence of sulfuric acid and a very small amount of cerous sulfate. All of the iodine present is oxidized to iodic acid by this treatment. The iodic acid is then reduced to free iodine by arsenic trioxide and the liberated iodine steam-distilled at a low pressure into an absorber containing sodium hydroxide. After oxidation of the iodine with bromine, the resulting iodic acid is allowed to react with potassium iodide and

Iodine Determination in Raw Cow's Milk in Iran
Iodine is an essential trace element in the human diet. The following work presents the latest information concerned with iodine determination in raw milk, in Iran. Iodine content of milk was determined by Sandell-Kolthoff method where the samples were taken from Holstein dairy cows, in Shahrkord, the central part of Iran. Thirty six samples were taken from transportation tanks in semi industri...
متن کاملPlatinum Nanoparticle Electrode Modified Iodine using Cyclic Voltammetry and Chronoamperometry for Determination of Ascorbic Acid
This study investigated the oxidation of ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) using a platinum nanoparticle electrode coated with an iodine monolayer, called a modified electrode. The electrode were grown using the cyclic voltammetry technique and the electrochemical measurements were taken using the cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometric technique. In the case of platinum nanoparticle electrode modifi...
متن کاملDetermination of Microquantities of Iodine in Biological Materials
This paper presents a modified method of iodine determination in biological material using the results of various authors and own knowledge. For our procedure the iodine mass loss was experimentally determined using radionuclide 1 2 5 l . The average value of iodine mass losses 19.8 % indicates that the method is suitable for the determination of microquantities of iodine (10—400 (ig dm") in bi...

متن کاملDetermination of total iodine in urine, stool, diets, and tissue.
13ETIiRMINATION of total iodine in various materials has become of increasing interest, especially in nutritional studies. Several methods are available for such determination. Many of them have been principally concerned with the protein-bound iodine fraction in serum (1, 2). Other methods for iodine determination have appeared from time to time. Mathews et al. (3) have proposed a method which...
